On topic: there are way too many innocent people convicted of crimes to justify a death penalty.

I agree, but leaving murderers in prison alive taking from tax payers' money isn't great either, especially if rehabilitation isn't guaranteed.
Our country has for profit prisons and is actively invested in keeping incarceration rates up. If we invested in the root causes of crime then it wouldn't cost much in taxes to imprison or rehabilitate people.

In Texas the only way for poor people to get access to mental health care and the medication they need is to be incarcerated.

Yeah sadly, I am very enraged, I couldn't even watch our news here without breaking my heart and gritting my teeth at the injustice being perpetrated here in a daily basis and the number of people clamoring for it, thinking of it as a valiant and righteous act, to execute people point-blank in the streets of merely being the unfortunate victims of petty accusations of being a drug pusher even a drug user. Our president is not the problem, he merely mirrors the opinion of the majority of the masses, and what a stupid and immoral one that is, the public is the problem. Drug pushers do not deserve to die, drug users do not deserve to die. Any one who has not committed a non-violent crime does not deserve to die.
What people do not understand here is that, the very time the President assumed power, and made statements of approval for extra-judicial killings to be carried out by the police, and the public itself through out the country to anyone who they suspected to have committed a crime especially drug-related is Who? Who in their right mind would they delegate such power to, to decide beforehand whether a person is guilty or not without being given the right to defend himself/herself in the court of law? It is impossible, this only allows the government to have the power to execute their political enemies under the guise of wanting to wipe out drug activity for the benefit of the society. And worse, it also allows ordinary people to carry out murder against anyone they have personal and petty differences with.
The paradox is: in the search for swift justice, all justice is lost, and in an attempt to wipe out corruption, corruption only takes on a much subtler form.

*edit: actually, why is it so easy for us to get angry? maybe because we're wild by nature. i don't know. *i guess we are just very sensitive.
True, if a bear mauls a person in the streets, do we kill that bear? No, we lead it back to its habitat. Since it is just a bear behaving like a bear. If a crocodile bites off my arm, and I survive the ordeal, should I punish the crocodile for behaving like a crocodile? Are people any different, Not really. We do not have to demonize crimes. We should treat them like illnesses.
We kill wild predatory animals who do nothing more than wander into residential areas all the time. We don't lead the bear back to its habitat. We shoot it. When sharks attack people we cull them. I get your point and agree with it, but that's a faulty analogy.
I understand, and yes, that does happen more often than not. Still, I do not see the point of killing an animal, if it can be restrained, it should be restrained and taken the back to its natural habitat unless it is still in a position to do harm thus drastic measures must be undertaken. To kill it because it has taken the life of a community member or a friend, to satiate the need to retaliate and as a form of consolation to grief is misguided. To demonize a particular animal because it has taken a human life, is ridiculous, as if believing that all the other animals that belong to that same specie would have shown mercy. Again, if a crocodile bites off my arm or permanently disfigure a friend or a relative, worse, inflict fatal injuries, I wouldn't demand its death, neither would I feel animosity and hatred towards it, all the fault is on our side, never on the animal behaving like an animal.

patches wrote: what about jodi arias's boyfriend? if jodi starts stalking him and slashing his tires, don't you think it's time to break up with her?
Oh definitely, but I would be very careful as to the timing, rejecting that particular someone would prove to be fatal as it did.
On the same note, I see this trend of women mostly, going berserk when they have been cheated on, being cheated on is not a crime, damaging property is. If a guy cheats on a woman, it doesn't warrant the burning of clothes, slashing of tires, trashing the apartment of the guy, women involved in this should try to be adults and just severe the relationship immediately and move on with their lives,

God exists for a reason. Those who need to be punished will be punished when their time comes.

and, yes, she should have just moved on. what's the point in killing him and ending up in prison? not the brightest person. all of his friends knew she was stalking him, so did she think some hobo traveling through town by train would have been a likely suspect? anyway, they were both weirdos.
