I hate the idea of death, especially as I'm not religious. I plan to get cryogenically frozen.

If you really don't want to be old, check out Alcor Life Extension Foundation (they will freeze your body)
What do you guys think?

Alcor is the company I plan to use, I heard about them a few years ago. I figure even if the chance of success was 1% or lower it would still be worth a shot. There's some very intelligent people like Aubrey de Grey and Ray Kurzweil who believe in combattng ageing.

Until recently, I was taking care of my grandma who reached the age of 88 years..
And believe me, even though we did argue from time to time (she was quite stubborn haha), I never saw her as a burden..
Living with her did kind of open the window to a whole new world of scary thoughts though..
I clearly remember a moment when she told me that she just wished for it all to be over.. I was still younger then and it honestly shocked me..
But the more time I spent with her, the more I could see where she was coming from..
Like you said, she could not perform the most basic tasks by herself, and even with my help I could see that she was in pain..
Not being able to enjoy anything about life anymore, being barely able to see and to hear, being in constant pain, seriously terrifies me.. :/ Death to me seems more like a welcome relief at that point..

True, death is not an inconvenience, as being dead for billions of years before my birth didn't inconvenience me at all.  But yeah, it is the dying part that is terrifying, the manner of it.

I meant you being old would not be an inconvenience to your loved ones.. Everyone will get to that point if they're lucky to have lived a long life and they also will need someone to look after them..

Oh dont tell me that, It is an inconvenience even though, I love my grandparents, but it is degrading, they themselves feel it is degrading, I see them cry and their faces filled with shame as they look down on me, while I am on the floor cleaning their shit and their piss. I know, and I can see in their eyes, my grandmother in her 80 and my grandfather in his 90's. that they themselves would take their lives if they had some strength left in their arms to strangle themselves in bed. I too, would never ever want to reach that point, seeing them, and feel that it is my moral obligation to kill myself before I reach that point..

Hm you mean dead while at the same time the body is intact? Or no longer growing old?

Honestly, I think that no longer growing old sounds a lot harder than "refreshing" our organs - what I meant by that is if you got a heart problem, replace it with a new one(with clone technology) if you are losing brain cells, inject some new ones lol. Injecting new brain cells or replace one/some organs definitely won't be the solution. There are biologically immortal animals out there, such as lobsters, so if human can replicate how their DNA repair themselves, then there is a chance that human can avoid aging. However, the chance of cell division error will always be there, and that will eventually lead to cancer. We would have to cure all forms of cancer and stop aging, else eventually everyone will die anyways, it would just be a matter of time. When/if we solve both problems (and many other random fatal diseases), we'll only die from accidents such as car crash and etc. Human population growth would be an issue without death counteracting birth. Restriction of reproduction would have to be in place for sure, or we'll be out of resources in matter of decade. How that restriction will be placed and who gets the privilege to reproduce, now that's an interesting topic.

i don't want to be ill, either, when i'm old but i will mostly miss so many things about this planet, so i will be very sad when it's almost over. i'm going through a very happy season now and i wish it could last a long, long time. it's such a gift people have to grow up and experience so much, assuming they are not having really difficult lives. even people who don't get to live very long had happy times in their lives and were such a gift to the ones around them.

i will definitely miss this planet.

I will miss my body and this world. But real nightmare for me is that reincarnated into a short man body or lady body .
