Your Thoughts on Old Age and Death was created by UltimateContrarian
The biggest fear in my life is growing old. Being very old to the point I could no longer perform the most basic human functions without the aid of someone else. To reach a point where I could no longer take a shit, piss and eat, walk around or go to bed, without inconveniencing someone I love. To reach a point I could no longer contribute to the community in general, to no longer have progressive thoughts or philosophical ideas, to no longer have the capacity to give love, emotional support, comfort, and care to the people I love, but instead find myself selfishly and entirely on just the receiving end of those.

My biggest fear is also being struck by a horrible disease, just as being a victim of the incapacitating effects of old age, that my life would be concluded with imbecilic cries of agony, delirious yammering, to watch my dignity stripped away as the disease consumes my body, and worse, to allow my family and friends to watch me through out this horrible process.

Death for me in not a problem or something I should worry about, why should I worry about something that occurs only when I am gone?

What are yours?

As a trained pianist and musician, one of the biggest fears I have in my life is to lose my sense of hearing once and for all.

To play Mozart's piano sonatas and hear nothing.
To play Handel's fugues and hear absolutely nothing at all..
To perform Bach's keyboard partitas and hear nothing but a dreadful silence..

That is a life not worth living anymore.

I have accepted them both as inevitable. I think I am more afraid of watching the people around me suffer bearing witness to an illness killing me than I am of actually dying from it.

It scares me.
The dying part scares me, because of the uncertainty of what will happen after death.
The thought of never seeing my loved ones again or being born again into a life full of suffering makes me sad and scares me at the same time.
Growing old scares me even more than the dying part. The thing I fear the most is seeing my loved ones suffer in illness and die. The next thing would be becoming a burden to the people around me and dying alone.
I'm aware I can't change anything about any of those things and it's a part of life. And I guess it's kind of silly to fear something that's uncertain, but it's nothing I think about every day of my life; it just overcomes me in certain situations.
It doesn't prevent me from being happy and enjoying every moment of my life.

Make everyday count and worthy. No regret when we look back , I did what I wanted, I enjoyed what I wished for , I loved someone whom I loved

Hm, just wanna clarify, your love for music, does it so greatly outweigh your love for everything else, that in its absence you'd want to altogether lose all the other love you may have for a multitude of other things?

And when it does happen, would you contemplate on taking your life?

No. If I were to lose my ability to play and listen to music, I would probably cling onto everything else that I could still enjoy, at least for a few moments.

That would probably depend on whether the other things I enjoy could adequately make up for my disabilities. I have not been in such a situation and so I do not know.
