Think of a science convention, there is no arrogance there at all, you are more likely to see nudity in a science convention than you see arrogance. A person with a theory, who have devoted his whole life in coming up with a scientific research, presents it to everybody. And most often than not, his colleagues would tear, scrutinize, butcher his theory and if it is incompetent, ridicule the life out of it. Does that man reduce into tears, and play on his hurt feelings and start calling anybody who shows how silly his theory is as arrogant? No, the amazing thing is, he will praise his colleagues and be grateful to have helped him spot the inconsistencies and incompetence of his research. Science is not just a body of knowledge, it is a way of THINKING.

Oh nope, I have always been this since I got rid of my fantasies, hmm, it started when I was about 10 years old. I have 16 years under my belt.
My condolences to your parents.
Yet you went with art instead of science... couldn't cut it with a science degree?
My parents are just fine.
I have equal passion for both, architecture is applied science if you didn't know. Architecture is the harmonious merging of Science and Art. I think I am in the best place I could ever imagine boy chick.

It is indeed funny how you could be so ignorant of that type of discipline. Well it is never too late to learn something.

I don't need to know firsthand whether you have two science degrees. I can judge by your comments that you are not practicing the scientific discipline you profess to have, however neglected. There are even surgeons who do not believe in Evolution which is the basic foundation of Biology, there are Doctors, Scientists who are also fundamentalists. How is that possible? I do not know, But I can bet a Religious Scientist will have to leave his or her Faith at the door of Science Lab upon entering, otherwise his or her pursuits are futile. I am also sure that astrophysicist do not gather round praying for the existence of the Higgs Boson before it was confirmed to be found in March, 2013. It is amazing how the human mind is capable of double-think: to hold two conflicting beliefs and regarding both to be true.

What I find so disagreeable is your sanctimonious attitude and the religious way in which you center your identity around an ideology (much the way the people you hate do). When a person hates something, it is usually a projection of themselves.

Well good, you just have a problem with the way I state my views then, well subjectivity when misplaced is surely an ugly thing. Yes, If you love something, you immediately are obligated to hate its anti-thesis. If you do not have absolute hate for Dictators who massacre and deny their citizens human liberties, then you do not value freedom at all, if you do not have hate, and rather neutral about the stupidity of people who justify their crimes of humanity with a holy book from the bronze-age then you do not value Humanity as well, as I have said before. Then SHAME on YOU.

Just stating my opinion as someone who studied science in university and i had the oportunity to share researches in a few conventions ...
They do NOT tear each other appart if the research has flaws ... the scientific community is actually close knit and what they do is try to better the other persons research by either questionning certain aspects who might be less clear or make suggestions about what they think the next step of that research might be or what tests should be done to make it better and more valuable.
And also ive seen reknown lab directors get at each others troat and act like 5 years old because their view was "the only good view out there". - so yes even scientist can get offended if u bash on their point of view.
Science IS a way of thinking ... we have to envision every possibility of a given problem. That requires to be open minded to people who might see facettes of the problem we did not think about.
Science is constantly growing and things we were sure about decades ago have been proven wrong with todays technology.
Trying to "cure" people out of their faith in the name of science gives us scientist a bad reputation.
Im atheist but i respect others people faith because its their freedom to believe in a god. (Aka the same freedom u say your so attached to and gives u the right to try to destroy their convictions)
I already know ill be bashed on for writting this but watuurrvurrr

I don't see any reason for anybody to bash your comment. And yes I agree. There are a few Scientists who can be very emotional about their work, almost hold it with Religious Vigor, Scientists who are unscientific in their approach.
And Yes, I do respect just as you do the right of any individual to hold their religious beliefs, as long as they do not legislate laws based on religious dogmas, as long as they do not infiltrate the educational system with junk science, as long as they do not seek to be exempt from being taxed. The government must always be neutral and not endorse a particular church, our educational system must always be secular. Anybody can worship any god they like, or how many within the comfort of their homes, or wherever church they gather at. When that right is taken from them, I will be the first one to march the streets in protests. And again, if a religious person comes into a debate, or any discussion and in opposition with the secularist, their beliefs are not immune to ridicule, just because it is FAITH doesn't mean it demands immediate respect.
And religious people operate on the idea that their beliefs are true, backed by science and archaeological evidence of which there is none, we secularists and humanists on the other hand ridicule those beliefs and sort of demystify them to show they are fabricated, man-made and even fraudulent. And Yes I do believe that people can be persuaded by reason and evidence. There is a saying that you can't use reason to shake a person out of a belief in which they didn't use reason to acquire in the first place. That is wrong, time and time again, religious people do have the capacity to change their minds and to be persuaded by Reason and Science. There are atheists like yourself who do not want to take part of it, it is fine.
