I'm really sorry to hear that^ She (and so many other members who have tried to bring up this issue) just want some validation and hope. Just because this topic might make some members feel uncomfortable, accused, guilty of privilege or whatever doesn't mean it's worthless to talk about at all. It's more dangerous to silence or discourage discussions about race than to get them out into the air :)

Rogue You're absolutely right, and I thought about writing a response like yours instead because it's the conclusion I've come to as well -- what I should have said is that preferences are normal and should not be condemned as racist...b/c preferences get thrown out the window when somebody special comes along and is given a chance.. How many of us have won the heart of an Asian guy or non-Asian girl who had spent their whole life loving only people of a different race from ours? I'm actually curious but I think a lot of us have..

I honestly think more of the younger generation likes a darker female.
I remember a Vietnamese guy I dated whose friends back home didn't care for black females much, but they really idolized a lot of Latin and Middle Eastern women.

I think a lot of people pressume that because historically, a lot of Asian cultures idolized paleness, but people forget that Europe and the US use to prefer paleness too; times and trends change.
My best friend is Korean and her mom contantly calls me the "ghost". I had an ex whose mom still lived in China and she was always telling her son how unattractive I was for being so pale haha.

Nah. Never. I think there are certain taboos associated with it but I love darker women haha. I think they're special too. Darker or white it really doesn't matter to me. As long as you've got a great personality and you're not too much about yourself (and we can hold a decent conversation), you've got my attention.

The young black female that created this thread was 14 years old.
She was a very bright young woman asking a genuine question.

She has since deleted her account.

Growing up being one of the darker members of my family which is heavily multi-racial/cultural and living with my mom and white step-dad I surprisingly never felt disadvantaged about anything even if I did have white blonde haired and blue eyed family members, although some might have. It's all about understanding that people have preferences and not "prejuidices" although some might disagree I believe what people view to be prejuidice or racism is just misunderstanding of one's culture. Most people in this day and age are not going to reject someone solely on their skin color, there are many factors that come to play like attractiveness, personality, family, education, location, culture, language, wealth, and religious beliefs. If someone does not find you attractive because you are dark than whatever, so be it. Why should you take personal offense to something you can't change....well actually you can, but that's another topic. I hear too much from darker girls, white girls, asian guys, and everybody else that people don't like them because of their skin color or ethnicity and that they can't get anyone to like them because they are *insert race here* and the people they like are *insert race here*. Its ridiculous to me to solely base that as the only reason, majority of the time its coming from a person that isn't even viewed as attractive to people who prefer whatever that person's appearance is, furthermore the individual usually already has low self-esteem about themselves and thus has an undesirable personality. These factors greatly outweigh the "race or skin issue" and are overlooked by the individual making the statement. There are no ugly people in this world just lazy ones. Whatever you are looking for is out there and statistics says if you go looking long enough you will find that person. Getting rejected just leads you closer and closer to that person. Good Luck and Happy Hunting ;)

Replied by Miyu_K on topic Re: Racism against darker girls on Hey ai?
I think by checking off a box of who you are interested in would not be a good idea and that it would inhibit some friendships to form let nature do its thing. People need to learn to be more open and try to make the first move rejection is part of the process. I'm a dark-skinned girl and I am saying this. I have only dated korean men so I am interested in them and I don't really know about other asian countries and such so I wouldn't be able to say "oh I am interested in *insert asian race here* because I just don't know anything about the culture or people. I will be able to learn if a guy from that country tries to contact me but if I already have on my page that I only checked the box for koreans this other guy might never contact me and I might never be able to find out about this new culture. All I am saying is that everyone came on here with a preference, but that prefernces can change and broaden the box would limit this growth of people.

Yes lets change the topic Title I absolutely abhor the word rascist being thrown around soooo easily its not fair and it gives the site a bad image that I personally do not think it deserves at all.
