It's a post-apocalyptic vision of the US and the unlikely heroes that emerge from the ruins. Life and death decisions, gorgeous heroine, and fight scenes. There's a lot that Americans would like in this tale of survival.

i guess everyone has different tastes, and deserves to have their own opinion.
i won't lie, i never bother to watch any twilight movies in theaters, even the reruns on cable look like a waste of time to me. I went to see the hunger games, though, surprisingly i really like it, i'm a fan now :P never read the book, but definitely look forward to the next two movies, plus the long call on lions gate stock treated me really well

(edit to avoid confrontations with the fellow Junior Boarder downstairs, i disclose that i only long the call option and already closed my position before the movie release :) )

Lions Gate stock is selling for more than 50 times earnings with a price to book value in excess of 40 and a profit margin of less than 3%. Gutsy.

This is like asking: "k-pop, why the hype?"

Different people like different things.

The books have been really addicting to me - I've read all three books in just one week.
So of course I was excited to watch the movie as well. But unfortunately the movie turned out totally boring and hard to understand for people who didn't read the book. The left so many important moments out of the moviey, I was so disappointed.
So yeah, even as a THG fan I can understand why don't really like it. If you want you can give the books a try, they are really worth it in my opinion! :side:

I agree with this. Books are always better than their movie adaptations, but with Hunger Games, the books were miles better.

Personally I thought the movie was OK; I hope the next movie captures more of the romance between Katniss and Peeta, ie PeeNiss or KatPee
