the admins are currently discussing a rule change and we'd like to hear you guys opinion.
The rule change has to do with the fact that we keep receiving complaints of girls about guys who allegedly trick them into having sex by pretending they want a relationship and then disappear after having "done the deed".
At first the administration was very reluctant about this, since it is very hard to define an act of "tricking someone into something", a rule like this could be used by a girl to take revenge on a guy she started disliking for other reasons, and it seems doubtful whether we should be forcing moral standards onto our members.
It seems however that this problem keeps resurfacing and is causing girls to leave the site. The primary guideline of Hey-Ai rules is that everything that harms the site should be forbidden by one of our rules, and since we have fewer active girls than guys and it's harder and more expensive to advertise for them, Hey-Ai might indeed think about creating a rule against this.
Therefore, we admins sat down and made a draft for a possible rule.
"If X members (x being a number like 2 or 3; open to discussion) testify against a member of the opposite gender, saying that this member has tricked them into having sex under false pretenses, and if the Hey-Ai administration has sufficiently ruled out any suspicions that both testifying parties are making the story up for some other benefit, the accused member can be banned from Hey-Ai."
(excuse my weird English please)
This rule would be targeted at guys who try to use Hey-Ai to get "quick lays" under false pretenses (if one is being truthful about the fact that one is only here for sex, for example by stating that on one's profile, that is no problem of course.)
The testifying parties might or might not be required to produce proof that they've actually met with this guy (common pictures for example) to prevent false testimonials (this is also open to discussion).
I would greatly appreciate some enlightened discussion about whether a rule like this might work as intended, what unintended consequences it might have and whether it is a good or bad idea to interfere in our users private lives like that.
Please don't bash people in this thread (like "idiotic girls like that deserve to be punished" or the like) and conduct the whole discussion in a courteous manner =).
We are aware that most guys will not be in favor of this rule, please understand however that we might give the girls opinion a big more weight, since as I said there are more active male users here than female users atm and our goal is a balanced site, not a sausage fest

The intention of this new policy is nice, but it's too flawed in nature. You guys don't have enough means to really verify the truth, what everyone is saying offline. By them justifying things on here would just become a fiasco of "he said she said he said", and there'd be too much drama going on.
I still am in the position of letting each of our members live their own lives (yes, be it honest, deceitful, nonchalant etc), and let their own judge of character live and learn

I think original Skype/MSN chat log files could normally tell quite a lot about the situation, and give a good indication if they were being honest or not.

My alternative for this: sticky some threads about approaches to such things, mods keep a mental note of the culprits, and maybe some form of public hazing?

Just ask both the girl and guy to upload their original log files for comparison. It's simple.
Skype saves all chats with contacts in a Skype folder in Documents & Settings. The full path would be C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Skype\skype username.
In there you find the databases chatmsg256.dbb, chatmsg512.dbb, chatmsg1024.dbb, chatmsg2048.dbb, chatmsg4096.dbb and chatmsg8192.dbb. Those files contain your chat history.

CuteYuuki wrote: Hm... I really don't understand how girls can be that naive ;D Anyway, I believe it's not hey-ai mods business, what it's members do with their sex lifes. Actually, it would be kinda creepy if they started interfering. xD
yeah. you're not a babysitter. adults do what they do.
You should however have an FAQ on what to look out for. and make sure the under 18 at least take a look at that before participating on chats.
ps. come on girls. stop flashing guys. you'll regret it later...
pps. stop mods from sitting in chats and continuously making passes at young girls. that's creepy too.

Maybe you do need such a rule since girls here are so naive

furthermore, getting laid makes it more surprising.
but having admins, 'administrating' outside the site is just plain unthinkable.
just beware before doing it and not regret it later.

I think it's easier said then done when it hasn't happened to you though.
Say in the future, you started to talking to a guy who you really seem to get on with, have similar interests and who's charming and sweet.
It could be that guy.
