That disturbs me too...all my sisters would never even imagine being in a relationship with their own kind and I asked other Cambodian girls if they're attracted to Cambodian guys and they just said "ew, no. White guys are better looking" . There are many Cambodian women in my area who are either married or bf and gf with white men.

Most Cambodian women think the lighter the skin is, the more beautiful you are...I have no idea why. It's that kind of thinking that makes me afraid to approach another Cambodian woman. I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw it that way, if any Cambodian person heard me saying this, I'd probably get frowned upon.

Isn't that a typical asian thing, that lighter skin is preferred?

I always thought asian-americans would be more influenced by the american preference for more tanned skin.

In Cambodia it is really crazy, I had to explain to people, why western people expose their skin to sun. To them it is just completely crazy. All guys I know wear long-sleaved shirts during they day, even when it's 40 degrees (oh, thats celsius).

Same here. I sometimes feel like I'm so pale I glow in the dark. When I was travelling in Asia I got a little bit of a tan, but people kept asking me, how I managed to not tan and complimented me on my skin.

it's just history being passed down to the present. day laborers were out toiling in the sun, whilst the aristocracy or affluent were chillaxing inside.
