I dont think it's Latina specific. It goes both ways. If you like Asian guys, the best way is to hang out with them, meaning not just with good looking Asian guys, but Asians, guys and girls in general. I usually end up spending time with non Asians, male friends and female friends, at least I get know know some non Asian girls naturally rather than just staring at them and drool. You probably get to meet like minded female friends of non Asian origins that share your preference this way rather than saying in your comfort zone all the time.

Personally, i've always had a thing for white women (European ones to be exact), but being Asian sometimes feels like we have some sort of handicap towards other race or something.....but on the upside, i guess some of them dont always assume that im fully asian, considering my skin tone & height! (i think?)

This part of your comment bugs me. It's almost like you're saying that you're okay with the perception that part Asian is better than fully Asian because you benefit from it. That's kind of gross.

Thats an interesting observation. I have the typical asian chinese guy look, nothing exotic and I've always believed if a girl thinks I'm attractive its because she has found something attractive in me and not because I only look asian. You could probably say the typical asian has mongoloid features, is shorter and has darker skin then his caucasian counterpart and I do admit I think most non asian females would not be attracted to that. When I watch a Miss Universe paegent I often find myself thinking this and that contestant is not attractive but she has been voted in by her country so they must think she is! The allure of attraction is a very abstract human emotion shaped by our exposure to media, our values and most importantly that unique part of our brain chemistry known as pheromones, dopamine, serotonin etc. In the end when we are attracted or in love isn't it just our brain chemistry hijacking us??? :)

I don't think LMNOP has any issues with girls having personal preferences, but oddball's comment seems to imply it is better to look less Asian, and it probably bothered her. Kind of like latinos And blacks also face a similar dilemma of how fair skin is considered more desirable among themselves. It's ridiculous and sad really, but at the same time, if you look at Korean girls with umbrellas on a sunny day just so that they don't get tanned, Asians have unfortunately have the same assumption that the lighter the skin, the more beautiful, which again is a moronic notion.

It's bad enough that visible minorities are disadvantaged because of the appearance, it's getting pathetic when we judge ourselves the same way.

This is exactly what I meant. And that's precisely the reason why it stood out to me, because black people often treat lighter skinned blacks better than those with darker skin. In fact, you're treated better in general if you're a black person with lighter skin. It's really messed up and certainly not something to celebrate, even if you're one of the lucky beneficiaries of this treatment.

Very well said@lefty. I understood what LMNOP was trying to get across and I also think its not how we should be but I feel its an unfortunate fact of life that stems from the ideal beauty being programmed into us thru the media, culture, values etc since childhood. I'm sure if you asked a young child what is pretty, having been less influenced they would probably answer differently from adults. I noticed the same phenomenon in my kids at school. They attended an international school full of many nationalities and I observed when they were young kids of all races, be it white, asian , black would all mix in and become friends easily but once they got older the groups became more segregated, be it by race, socioeconomic status, interests (sports, music etc). My point being that what attracts us is influenced by what is moulded/shaped into us via experience (aging) and bias/preference subsequently develops.
To me why we choose certain friends and the notion of physical attraction is based on similar reasoning. These preferences then trigger our brain chemistry. My expansion of the subject might have gone off LMNOP's original point and got lost in translation but I appreciate your post.

Well here's to one of those few! ;D Greetings to you. I'm part black and am attracted to Asian men. It's difficult finding acceptance from others but I don't care.

To be honest I can see what he means though being so mixed I feel it is easier to get by as another race sometimes than what I am. (Is it right to think that way? Absolutely not) Being made fun of as a child I think is what took it's tole for me. Like take the Korean girls with the umbrellas thing someone was talking about. I was like the same way. I stayed out of the sun and used not sunscreen but sunBLOCK. Sad indeed.
