When both partners make a step to one another's culture, maybe they will get to know each other better... :)
I can't speak for ALL male members of Hey-ai, so I'll just speak for my own experience.

Since I joined this site, I've learnt to say "hello" in some languages I never considered learning before, & now I want to reactivate languages I studied in the past but felt too lazy to practice.
Also, I visited 2 countries (still within reasonable flight distance, ie 2 hour flight or so) to meet someone from here.
Hence, well... yes, Hey-ai can be a good opportunity for whoever wants to make an effort to learn new cultures.
Hope it helps.

Hi Halimo!

For me it is, it is a two way street. Personally, I am interested in all cultures because by learning about a different culture it opens my eyes more to different ways of living, giving me more life perspective, and therefore self learning. To over quote the often, if not overly, quoted and fittingly Asian Bruce Lee, "All types of knowledge, ultimately leads to self knowledge."

Yes, I do want to learn about the other culture with immersion.

Other Thoughts and Questions

Naturally when I am interested in a girl my curiosity is going to stir up and it will make me wonder things about the girl's background and upbringing. So priority-wise this shows that I have chosen in this situation to chose a girl first by my interest in her and as lesser priority, her culture. Is this a stupid reason to be interested in the culture just because I like a girl?

I will say I do have interest in the culture, but at what point or when does it come into play? Is there ever a situation where the guy is interested in the culture first then, the girl? YES. I feel that guys are definitely interested in both the girl individually and their culture. But, to varying degrees. Sometimes the level of interest in culture just needs to be awoken or stimulated before it is increased. It would be a nice study to see how the priorities change over time and how they effect one another.

Is this a question of fairness? If we say that predominately girls on Hey-Ai are first interested in the culture and as result are then interested in the individual guy. And oppositely, guys on Hey-Ai are interested in the girl first before their culture. Is this fair? .... What other hypothetical situations can we play out?

Then, there is a stereotype that men aren't as sensitive as woman. If you factor this in you could say that men don't care as much as woman do, so they don't care about culture.

Obviously, the focus of Hey-Ai is of promoting Asian guy networking. With that being the case we will see more often interest in and subject pertaining to anything Asian from culture to looks.

Ultimately people come and will come to this website for many different reasons. Language, food, media, fashion, history, sex, looks, to name some.
