Why the verification system?

Recently we received quite a few reports from members (especially girls/women) who experienced bad behaviours or get connection requests and messages with inappropriate content by indecent people (especially male members). We received the same feedback by those members who deleted their profile. Now I just received a letter from a user asking what she should do in this case and how to prevent this from happening. She is probably not the only one who is asking this question but only courageous and willing enough to reach out to us.

We want this place to be a friendly and safe place for every respectful member. That's why I'd recommend to her (and other innocent members) the following steps:
1. In this post it is advised that you report these kind of behaviour. In addition to that you can also block the culprit. In case of doubt, do it like her and contact any of the mod/admin team (e.g. nicki, chibii, tamm, or myself - but I'm not that often here as I'm used to).
2. We are setting up a verification system that prevents you from fakes, catfish, etc. Even though it is not guaranteed, people who have verified themselves should be more thrustworthy than people haven't verified themselves. In this post it is explained how it works.

we came across a few fake profiles (guys pretending to be girls and vice versa on this site). You can support us detecting fake profiles by participating in the verification system yourself. The more you volunteer to verify yourself, the higher the chance we are able detect fake profiles and thus improve your experience on this site. Thanks.
