Hey, I have got a language/culture question, and I would really appreciate some advice.
My Chinese friend is going to China to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and I would like to wish him a Happy New Year in Mandarin before he goes away. Is Xīn Nián Kuài Lè a good choice? Also, most importantly, is it ok to wish someone a happy new year a week before the new year? In some countries it is regarded as bad luck. Is it the same in China?

Xīn Nián Kuài Lè is good.
and if you wish someone a happy new year just 1 week before the NEW YEAR is also good. In Chinese we will say 给你拜个早年. means to wish you good luck in the new year in advance. The Pronunciation is "gei ni bai ge zao nian"(334432)
