Tones are best taught through a musical approach. Preferably you should use an instrument that can do a smooth glissando. Perform the tones through the instrument and then have her imitate the instrument.

Many English speakers will have trouble differentiating the consonants: z, s, c; zh, ch, j, q; sh, x. This has to be explained with some technical phonetic terminology like affricate, fricative, etc. Polish speakers will have an easier time with these consonants.

I'm always impressed when a non-Asian person speaks Chinese so well.
Jillian explains how she learnt Mandarin Chinese:

Julie is French, Kelsi is Canadian. They both watched a lot of Mandarin drama shows and of course relationships/school.

Kinda sad Julie went back to France, somewhat trapped because of COVID.

Not really that impressive if an Asian person speaks broken english. They're more likely to be mocked for that when they go overseas. XD

But still I admire those who can pick up new languages from scratch as an adult. It cannot be easy. And some people like those 2 YouTube girls, seem to have a knack for it. I tried learning Spanish recently and it's so bloody hard. TT Despite listening to spanish music and watching some Spanish movies for a while. I only know a small handful of phrases and common words. I am not a great language student. You will go crazy if you try to help me learn spanish. I be constantly looking at you with a bewildered stare

You also have to be pretty motivated or possibly loco to commit to the hours and effort required to tolerate the frustration and difficulty of mastering a language that you naturally were not exposed to as a kid.

Yeah, depends on the person if they can pick up a new language. I think usually gets harder as you get older. My ex is a language major, she was learning Japanese, Korean, and some Mandarin a few years ago. We went to Japanese meet-ups and she spoke a bit of Korean at Korean restaurants. I was teaching her a bit of Mandarin. Mandarin would-be been her 8th language, I think. And she told me there's some tricks to do accents she learned from school. I forget now.
