Trying to learn Danish was created by zxynn
OK, I've recently decided to learn Danish, well, because I'm planning to study there for a while in the future. Unfortunately there are very few resources out there, it being a minority language in Europe, and I'm having a hard time picking up the basics. Can anyone here help me? (I know Blondegirl is a Dane here, yet I'm not sure how many Danes are on Hey-ai.)

And...is it true that Norwegian(bokmål) and Danish are so similar that I can study Norwegian instead and use it as Danish? I've heard the written forms are almost the same. There seem to be more resources teaching Norwegian, so I wonder if it helps to study Norwegian in order to learn Danish.

Jeg vil lære dansk. Vær så god og hjælp mig! :pinch:

ian, er du fra Danmark? :pinch:

Interestingly I see that you live in Sweden. From what I've heard Danish sounds very weird compared to Norwegian and Swedish and it has the most difficult pronunciation. Do you think it's true?

I mean, I've had very little exposure to the Scandinavian languages, but when I do try to listen to some Danish words/phrases pronounced, some pronunciations totally contradict what I expect it to sound. For example, I just don't get why "hundrede" sounds like [hoonad] and why "hedder" (as in 'jeg hedder zxynn') sounds like [huy-aa] (or something like that...).

And the thing about the glottal stop(stød). I have yet to grasp what it's really about. Is it similar to the glottal stop used in English?

Ohhhhhh that's my name right thrrrr!

Well. Danish, Norwegian n Swedish are pretty similar. Yet not enough for you to be able to understand them all after learning one of them. Thats what I would guess at least.
Danish is a really difficult language to learn. I think it's pretty cool you wanna learn it though.

feel free to ask me if you've got any questions.

But. don't worry. All danes can talk english (most of them are pretty good too) so you won't end up in problems in case you don't know any when you start studying here ^^
