To let go of bad relationships. It can be difficult for me to let go once I connect to people. I've also had to let go of people because I also care about them. It sounds like a contradiction to other people, but it makes sense to me. Either way, it's extremely painful. This piece of advice can apply to friendship as well. When I was younger, I was a bit gullible and naive due to my optimistic attitude in people. As I got older, I noticed a trend that I seemed to attract narcissists/ sociopath personalities that would constantly push my boundaries. A lot of my friendships/relationships would be one sided because of this. When I started to set clear and healthy boundaries for myself, a lot of the abuse in a sense stopped. I learned how to avoid these types of people all together. I'm glad I learned this for myself because I now have healthy friendships and a wonderful boyfriend.

"Love yourself first".

Happened to me pretty often that my boyfriend wouldnt understand me, most of the time cuz he wouldnt even try to do so. Thing is, when people do not understand you, they reject you and worse, they try to change you in their own way, so that you'll just have to follow them in silence, sacrifice everything, even yourself (values, principles, beliefs) to make them happy.

Thanks to this advice my parents gave me, i've never lowered myself to change for anyone and I could even say "goodbye" without any type of regret, cuz a relationship is based on love, for ourselves and for what "the other" is. Without that base, you can not expect it to work.

As a person who is easily misunderstood, I can say that I deeply understand how you feel.

Don't expect anything from anybody. Expectations end up in disappointment.

"Never love someone as much as they love you." - Worst advice I've ever received so maybe the best advice for me would be the opposite.
