非常感谢大家的意见和建议,还有非常抱歉我中文还很差><;

hi karyuu...uhm sorry i can't type chinese on this computer, but allow me to express my opinon :D
honestly iif you want to teach english in guangdong province and are interested in cantonese, i think that the best option is to actually go to hong kong, being from an international school i can tell you that you can be an english much easier, and plus living in hong kong is MUCh better than in anywhere in guandong province lolz (my EXTREMELY biased opinion), in addition the pay is also MUCH better u can't even compare it...however, because ur a native in german, what i can suggest is that you be a german teacher for an international school, for example, because most international schools requrie students to learn an extra langauge mostly: mandarin, french, german or spanish...

but yeah...thats just my two cents!

你中文书面语要比我强了好不好。谦虚个啥呀。

English in China is properly taught mainly in extra curricula. High school English classes, from my own experience, focus a lot more on exam-taking techniques, and not so much on practical linguistic abilities. You might find it less fulfilling to teach the material, and the education system's politics can be a hassle as well.

That leads to my recommendation: find a trustworthy English-teaching organization for high school students and go teach there instead. They tend to charge quite a bit, but you should get mostly lower middle class students if you find the right organization.

Of course, there are kids who can't even afford an English textbook and you would be an invaluable resource to them. It's also quite the noble pursuit. But you won't find them in Guangzhou or Shenzhen. I've never been to the West myself. It would probably be quite an adventure.

Speaking of Guangzhou, I have an old pal from high school who's probably still there. He's a German major graduate who went to a college in Guangzhou that produces mainly language teachers. I'm sure he won't mind answering your questions. Would you like to talk to him?

Fish90:
Thanks, I'm very open to go to Hongkong if I find a good offer, however I somehow feel it'd make more sense for me to go to Mainland China at first cause Hongkong is too expensive and has too many foreigners, also most kids in Hongkong probably have a good English education already. But if you find something interesting in HK please tell me =)

Koan:
Aaw thanks. Yeah that friend of yours sounds like a great resource, I'd love to talk to him, if you could introduce me that'd be awesome =D

Hey Karyuu, I am thinking to do something similar (and learning mandarin at the same time), did you take already a test/exam that allows you to teach English? I am just getting started to look into this and found a few options. Just curious how you got started.

Missywonder:
I've just started looking into this so I won't be of much help I'm afraid.
I have a bit of teaching experience from when I was in Asia in my "youth" though XD
If I'm being asked for a test I might take one but I'll see if I can get around it first XD
AfaIk in China things often aren't as official as in Germany, you don't need certificates or so for everything, but you kinda need to know people who recommend you and stuff ^^
But yeah I found tons and tons of offers from language schools, but since I'd rather work at a high school that's a bit more difficult it seems :-/

thats true about people's english level in hkg is realtively high, and u'd have to be in an english speaking country to be hired lol, but i DO have an alternative....back when i was in grade 7, we were forced to choose between german, french, spanish and uhm i htink it was italian... so my alternative was that u could teach german, in additionthey were paid extremely good comapred to local standards, and in addition their hosuing was covered by the international school foundation (English School Foundation) abbreviated ESF...but yeah the bad thing is that you'd be surrounded by ALOT of westerners and will be living in a westerners community (dunno if thats good of bad for you).....

however i do understand u want to work in "poorer" regions in guangzhou, but i was wondering isn't that highly improbable? won't poor people's priority be like, finding enough food etc instead of learning english? lol, but hey i might be wrong XD
